What a great day today has been! The Lord is so good. I reorganized our schedule and moved children's chores around. So hopefully we can stick with this ever changing schedule for at least 6 months! It seems it changes every two. So today was filled with getting it established. James didn't have to work today so he helped around here and allowed me to keep the pattern going. That's always appreciated. Since he'll have some days off during the week I fixed it to where we do school just during the morning session. So that'd be just 1 1/2 hours.
We are moving right along with the SOW curriculum. It's working quite well. We read Genesis chapter 12 today for that and will begin learning about rocks, minerals, metals and crystals. I think I'll start by us talking about the layers of the earth. I am using an A beka book as a base for what to study. We have so many reference books to browse through to dig for more information. Also, we are going to study Charles Spurgeon as part of our history. Turns out he was deeply interested in science and nature and that he used it as a basis for a lot of his sermons. Very interesting! So to round that out I want to find a few of his sermons that consists of that very thing. We have a lot of christian hero biographies so this will help. I know he's in a few of those books.
Today we began studying the prophesy of Christ's coming in Isaiah. This is what we will be studying for breakfast devotions--- prophesy of Christ and then the fulfillment in Luke chapters 1&2 and Matthew chapters 1 & 2. For our night devotions we are continuing in the miracles of Christ. Tonight we read of a young man dying. He was the only son and his mother was a widow. No daughters were mentioned. I could just feel how her grief must have been. To be widowed and then to lose your only son. Then here comes a man who allows your son to arise!!!!!!! Glory! Glory! They had to know that he was truly of God. Word certainly spread quick, for sure.
Samuel is creeping along in phonics and hopefully will be reading smoothly by the end of the school year. I am not concerned. He can do it but is just slower and diligence is imperative with his practicing to read.
Dalton is doing great with all of his studies and particularly with his cursive writing. He's a wiz in math but like many children just gets tired of the "same ole' same ole".
Brittany is doing SO WELL in math and doesn't complain about doing it like she has in the past. She's really taken to Saxon math. Almost so much that I hesitate to change her over to Christian Light next year. I will have to research Christian Light's math more before we make our final decision.
Brittany is also enjoying her study on South Carolina history. We are packing this in along with Mystery of History. I have committed to finishing this book by the end of this year!!!! I just have to be disciplined! It's so easy to lay history and science to the side...
Well, time for bed. We have that schedule to keep, you know!
