I hope that everyone is fairing well on this frigid Wednesday. Here in our local area we had a record low, down in the teens, in temps. and high in the 40s today. Last night I was up half the night rubbing lotion on our 2 year old's legs because she couldn't quit itching. She's just like me. Winter time does not do me justice in any way. :) So today I am upping her fluids and keeping her skin coated with oils and lotions along with thick clothing. This is in hopes that she won't be so miserably itchy.
See the wreath above? My oldest and I made this from materials we already had here at the house. The red material is actually a Christmas pattern. I could not think of what I could make with the material being I had only so much, etc. I had the idea to make a rag wreath. Now I have the idea to make quite a few more for Valentine's, spring, summer (AMERICANA!), and fall. For Valentines I thought we could shape a heart wreath. These wreaths are too easy, really! You just take an old wire hanger and shape it into whatever shape you want your wreath. Then you cut strips of material about 1"-2" wide and 6"-7" long. Then your fold the strip in half to where it's half the width and simply tie onto the hanger. I believe the more colors you have the more fun it'd be. I had an old denim dress and so I used some of that material as a contrasting color and it also makes this look more country. I really don't care for cutesy country. This is cutesy country but I somehow like the whimsey of it anyway. :D I guess it's one of those never say never situations.
School is moving along pretty well. I was hoping for us to take off two full weeks this Christmas break but I am thinking it'll only be seven school days (versus 10). That'll really depend if we can double up on some studies. I always have to have this certain sense of satisfaction with each child's learning in order to feel at peace with taking a break. We took off more time around Thanksgiving than I would have wanted too, but it was unavoidable. That's a con of homeschooling, if you take off then the littles have to take off too. But on the other hand, that's the beauty of homeschooling. At least you're taking off together. :)
So, here's our menu for the week for whoever is interested.
Sunday: chicken spaghetti, garlic bread and salad
Monday: chicken bog, salad
Tuesday: taco bake, corn
Wednesday: poor man's steak, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole
Thursday: baked pork loin, sweet potato casserole, green beans, salad
Friday: pizza and salad
Saturday: grilled hot dogs and chips
The chicken meals came from the same pack of chicken breasts ($5.00). Actually some chicken was also used from that pack for buffalo pizza last Friday. We really made that chicken stretch! The same with the beef used on Tuesday and Wedesday. Also, I unthawed some pintos that we used in the taco bake and will use to make burritos for lunch the next few days.
