New Way of Eating Part II

Okay, so I don't know which I am more excited about,  the idea of cutting down on sugar or this idea.

So, I was listening to this lady on YouTube. Here it is if you want to see it:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8gvHuu2pgY&feature=channel&list=UL

The video is on scheduling. Nancy Webster discusses how her daily routines run and what stood out for me was how she does her meals. They have breakfast at 10am and supper at 5pm. Wow! I love this idea! Really... and for a multitud of reasons.

First, I hhhhhaaaaaattttteeeee to cook breakfast. I do but, boy, do I dislike it! I get up early but I can't get coordinated enough to cook without dropping things and creating a mess. Periodically I'd get so burned out on it that I'd change things up and we'd have a cereal marathon. Cereal is terrible for you.  Sometimes I'd start breakfast the night before. A lot of times I did not. Sometimes I'd freeze breakfast burritoes ahead of time. I don't care to eat those every morning. Soooo, I needed a plan.

Being a stay at home, homeschool mom we have 3 meals a day here. THREE MEALS A DAY. Cook, cook, cook, cook. Mess, mess, mess. Get the picture? While watching the video I thought of how much easier it'd be to have only two meals to prepare for a day. Wow! This has the potential of cutting 30 minutes a day from cooking. I could do more things like watch more YouTube videos  tend to chores and play with the children more.

There's only one glitch. Hubby has to be at work around 7am. Yeah, not so good, right? You know, I still have been going into the kitchen twice in the morning to make breakfast. You see, it isn't so daunting for me to cook one or two eggs in the morning for an egg sandwich versus a dozen. I know, it's odd but true. So, I still plan on some mornings cooking James certain things like an egg sandwich and also I can save leftovers from our brunch for the next morning or he can have fruit.

So that takes care of James' breakfast. Now for the rest of us. Another thing I should bring out is that not all of us wake up hungry. It takes a while for our tummies to get going. So, some mornings the children don't want to eat until 10am anyway. GREAT! So, now I plan on us having brunch at 10am, snack between 2-3pm and supper about 6pm. One whole meal cut out of the day. BINGO! I WIN!

Oh, and I failed to mention another thing. This also saves us $$$ on groceries! Yup, you should know that I'd throw that in! Usually we'll allot about $3 for breakfast, $3 for lunch, $1-$2 for snacks and then on average $5 for supper. With combining bfast and lunch, we can knock off a good $2 a day from the budget. I'll add another $1 over the snacks to allow a more heartier snack. Ummm... yeah, that's $60 a month in savings. No kidding.

Also, the children haven't been so hungry at supper. I honestly think I was feeding them more than they need and their tummies couldn't hold any more at supper. Could this be the key to unlock this problem?

Yeah, you never know when you'll learn something new. Really.

So, now I need to go can some potatoes. Thanks for reading and maybe this will help someone else out there.

Susan,
I love this idea also. Jon and I do this most every weekend. We only eat 2 meals on Saturday and Sunday and love it. Of course, it's much easier for us to change our eating ways with it only being he and I.
I think it's something to try for sure. Keep us posted.
Love ya friend,
Cathy
