Our Current Schedule and Chore Plan

With school being in session for us over a month, it seemed our housekeeping was getting farther behind by the minute and it was dearly getting me down. I knew I had to have a plan and a plan quick! Since Monday was Labor day and a school day off for us, I took the initiative to give the house a pretty good cleaning and made up a new chore schedule. So here's how our day runs pretty much now.

I. Morning:
A.Mama up by 6:00....usually 5:00. This is my quiet time....ahhhhh, so nice!
               1. I read scripture, get on the computer, stare out in space and relish the quiet,
make James' breakfast and lunch. Kiss him goodbye.
    B. Children get up later...all by 8:00. They get up and eat breakfast. Then it's chore time.
Mom:  make children's breakfast (S, Tu, We, Th, Sa)/ maintain back and master bathrooms,
               inspect children's chores.
Brittany: cook breakfast (M, F)/ maintain children's bathroom
               Dalton: maintain living room
Samuel: laundry (start load and put away and clothes hung to dry , etc)
               Jesse: feed chickens and dogs
Bethany: check and change trash if needed
               Joy-Anna: dishwasher or table
               Gloria: dishwasher or table
     C. School

II. Noon
     A. lunch time (Mom usually makes but sometimes it's self-serve such as, "make your own sandwich, etc.)
     B. The children have recess time and then we do another set of chores.
Mom: master bedroom pick-up/ spot mop
Brittany: girls' bedroom pick-up/ inspect other's chores
Dalton: hang clothes in washer to dry, put in another load
          Samuel: dishes or table
Jesse: trash and boys' bedroom pick-up
          Bethany: dishes or table
          Joy-Anna: glass clean or sweep/vacuum
          Gloria: clean bedroom with Brittany
     C.  School done by 2:30

III. Evening
      A. Mom makes supper, sometimes with help from Brittany or the other girls. We eat.
      B. We have our last set of chores after supper.
Mom: laundry (hang load in washer, put away dried clothes, put in another load, repeat
                      inspect others' chores
Brittany: dishes or table (if she worked this day then Jesse takes over here instead of his chore)
Dalton: dishes or table (if he worked this day, Bethany takes over here instead of her chore)
Samuel: check trash and change if needed, change sheets in bedroom if needed)
Jesse: living room (couch and table or floor)
Bethany: living room (couch and table or floor)
Joy-Anna: play room or children's bathroom pick up
Gloria: play room or children's bathroom pick up

This is pretty much it, with work Monday through Friday. We put in devotions and extra chores here and there. There's always soooo much to do and it's near impossible to list all that is done in a day. This is not to mention sweeping and picking up the front porch and yard. Our porch is almost like the "first living room" you see so I like it to stay nice. We have a multi-purpose room that has the computer, school books, exercise equipment, etc. in it. This room gets done not as often as should be. Since this plan in new, I am supposing we'll hit this room on Saturdays. The guys mow grass and wash the van and car on Saturdays so it appears that the multi purpose room will go to us gals. :D The hallway and stairs get messed up too. I get to those when I can. All other things get done willy-nilly as they arise. Dusting will have to be on Saturday too. The Lord does give us enough time for life. It's just finding it. Having a large family does take work. Where much is given, much is required. I count it all joy. Our house is what I call "normal". You could walk in and it be a mess or you could walk in and see things in order. It is what it is. I just pray that during the days, I take opportunity to mold hearts for Jesus, including my own.
